Tania Saleh

Lebanon / Creation 2013

Tania Saleh in concert, for the first time at the Beirut Spring Festival.

Sunday 26 May 2013, 9:00 pm

Samir Kassir Square, Beirut Downtown

Tania's lyrics have always been able to express the reality of the Arab youth in a simple everyday dialect and always with a dark sense of humor. Her musical style can't really be defined as it is constantly evolving into unexpected forms, challenging herself to deliver new sounds. Their influences are so eclectic, ranging from the Egyptian "tarab" and the Lebanese "mawwal" to folk, funk, gospel, alternative rock and jazz, not to mention French singers/songwriters of the last century.

"Shababeek Beirut" is a romantic journey with a completely new sound, unlike anything Tania has done before. Grounded in her Lebanese roots and mixing Arabic melodies with electronic and acoustic sounds, this work offers a new musical dimension, new melodic elements with long instrumental parts and vocal scats, redefining Tania's influence on Arabic music in our modern times. The performance will be accompanied by a visual projection of her illustration work.

Tania Saleh is a Lebanese singer/songwriter who has been forging her own path in the underground Arabic music scene since 1990. Her voice is wise and true, a gentle blend of the traditional Arabic music she grew up with and the Western sounds she has chosen to follow. She writes about the daily worries of a troubled society, about love and hate and what's in between. Her music follows the rhythm of her daily life and reflects her changing moods, creating a boiling pot of melodies, feelings and a love for innovation. Her visual style has also helped to create a unique artistic image that sets her apart from the Arab commercial music scene.
