BEIRUT THE SEA LOVER
Milad Tauk, Elie Barrak
Lebanon / Creation 2019
Friday 14 June 2019, 9:00 pm
Roman Baths, Beirut Downtown
"Beirut the Sea Lover", as Samir Kassir called it in his book "The History of Beirut", is a live performance of 3D mapping, sound and light, and storytelling. The show is combined with a concert that celebrates the Lebanese song and praises the city of Beirut through its historical and contemporary architecture and its relationship to memory.
A mesmerizing trip down memory lane, the performance makes the audience travel back in time, from the ancient times of Berytus to the French mandate, the post-independence, the golden age, the civil war, and the reconstruction of the capital.
Music and images are brought together to revive and relive the collective memory. The performance celebrates the magnificence of Beirut as a major link between East and West.
The musical performance, created and led by Elie Barrak, brings back to life the most famous songs that echo the cityʼs storyline with new arrangements that combine classics, traditional and popular songs, jazz, swing, rap, and tarab.
The eclectic choice of melodies perfectly reflects the cosmopolitan buzz of Beirut with all its contrasts that have given the city its unique character and made it the performing arts hub in the Middle East.
